Activity/Description:
Take a ride on the Grouse Mountain gondola (Also called the Grouse Mountain Skyride) up Grouse Mountain and check out the view of Vancouver.
Location:
Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver, British Columbia. Click here for Google Map directions.
Useful Information:
Description:
The Skyride starts from the Grouse Mountain parking lot, which is about 301 meters (990 feet) above sea level, and takes visitors up the mountain to an altitude of about 1097 meters ( 3600 feet) above sea level. Weather permitting, the views from the gondola and from the top of the mountain are spectacular. You can see Vancouver Island, and the Gulf Islands, the Pacific Ocean, Downtown Vancouver, and the some of the mountains that make up the Coast Mountain Range.
Given the vantage point at the top of the gondola, this is an ideal spot from which to enjoy some of the most amazing views that Vancouver has to offer. For those interested in photography, this is a fantastic place from which to capture some of the spectacular beauty that Vancouver has to offer.
Once you have taken in the view from the top of the Skyride, there are various activities available to participate in, many of which change based on the season. For example, some of the winter activities that are available are snowshoeing, ice skating, sleigh rides, and a sno-limo. In the summer you can go hiking, mountain paragliding, go on a scenic chairlift ride, or take in some of the Summer entertainment.
Comparison (North Shore Mountains):
Cypress Mountain:
The lookout on Cypress Mountain is located on the road that leads to the Cypress Mountain x-country and downhill ski areas. It is approximately 1/2 of the way along the road to the ski areas. There is a small parking area which, depending on the season and the time of day, can be very busy, and for good reason. The view from the lookout is quite spectacular, and creates a fantastic opportunity for panoramic photos of the city. Unfortunately, there is no public bus that leads up to Cypress Mountain, and therefore, to get to the lookout you need access to a car. It takes about 30-40 minutes to drive to the lookout from downtown Vancouver. To get to the lookout on Cypress Mountain is free.
Seymour Mountain:
Seymour Mountain does not have any easily accessible viewpoints on the drive up the mountain, however there are some very nice hikes on Seymour that will lead you to some equally spectacular views. Like Cypress Mountain, there is not public bus service going to the parking area at the top of Mount Seymour, although there is a shuttle bus.
