General

1) What is ActiviWiki all about?

ActiviWiki is a place to document the best places that you know of to enjoy your favorite activities. The purpose is to build a publicly accessible  archive so that we can all benefit from the experiences of others.

2) What is the “[!] Report this post” link for?

This link is available to let us know if there is information contained in a post that is inappropriate or misleading.

3) How can I help?

Contribute to the site by providing local knowledge of great locations to participate in some fun activities in your area.

4) My city and country are not listed on the site yet, does that matter?

Not at all. All you need to do is provide the post, and we will categorize it. Whenever a new wiki post is submitted, it is reviewed by a moderator and the moderator will assign the post to the appropriate categories, including the location (country and city), as well as the applicable topic. This helps us to maintain consistency within the structure of our classification system.

5) What kind of activities would be appropriate to include on this site?

This is a fantastic question, and we can’t wait to see what people have to offer, but here are some ideas. Great places to:

  • Take photos
  • Go hiking
  • Go for a bike ride
  • Read a book
  • Watch the sunset
  • Go golfing/mini-golf
  • Kayak

Whatever it is that you like to do, tell us what it is, where you like to do it and why.

6) Do I have to register to create and edit wiki posts?

Yes, in an effort to provide some quality control over the content of posts we require you to register if you wish to create or edit a wiki, so that we can ban users who damage the content of posts.

7) Can I include multiple activities in a single post?

Each post should be focused primarily on a single activity at a particular location. This will improve the way in which activities are categorized within the site, and therefore, make it easier to search for specific things to do in specific locations. For example, if you were to write a wiki post about a great place to fly a kite, and it was at the beach, then limit your post to why the beach is a great place to fly your kite in that post, even though there are several other activities that the beach might be perfectly suited for. Then, in a separate post, you could write about how the beach is also a perfect place to take photos of the city, for example.

8) Why doesn’t my new post show up on the site after I have submitted it?

Brand new posts are reviewed by a moderator before it is published in an attempt to ensure that the information contained in the post is in keeping with the goals of the site. Once a post has been accepted and published, the post may be edited by anyone and the edited version will be posted immediately without being reviewed by a moderator.

9) How long does it take for a newly submitted post to be published?

On average, a new post will be published within 24 hours of submission. If, upon review, the moderator decides that your submission is not appropriate, then we will send an e-mail to the address that you used during registration explaining why your post was not acceptable.

10) What information should I include in a wiki post?

At a bare minimum, any ActiviWiki post should include the following information:

  1. Activity/Description
  2. Location
  3. Useful information (ie. directions, best season, associated costs)

Other information which you might consider adding to an Activiwiki post:

  1. Images
  2. Map
  3. Website links
  4. Blog links
  5. Book links

11) What information should not be included in a wiki post?

ActiviWiki is not interested in censoring people, however, the goal is to provide people with useful information about nice places to do the things that they enjoy. Information in wiki posts not fitting this description or advertising will be removed from the site.

12) How can I create a table of contents for a wiki post?

In order to add a table of contents to a post, you must make a the title the “Heading 2″ font size. Subtitles require a “Heading 3″ font size. View a screencast which shows how the Table of Contents feature works by clicking here.
